Most prop evaluations don't fail on a bad strategy — they fail on a single day where the trader lost track of how close the account already was to a limit. This calculator keeps both limits in front of you, in real numbers, before you act.

How to use it

  1. 1
    Enter the rules

Account size plus your firm's daily-loss and max-loss limits.

  2. 2
    Enter your losses

How much you've lost today and in total so far.

  3. 3
    Read the room

See remaining daily and max-loss budget and the safe next-trade loss.

  4. 4
    Decide deliberately

Size the next trade so it can't breach either limit.

Daily loss limit

The most you're allowed to lose in one trading day. The calculator shows how much of that daily budget you've already used and how much remains — the number that should cap your next position.

Max (overall) loss limit

The total drawdown that ends the account if breached. Tracking remaining max-loss room next to the daily limit means you're never surprised by the rule that actually terminates the challenge.

Remaining buffer and safe next trade

How the buffer works
The safe loss for your next trade is simply the smaller of your remaining daily room and remaining max-loss room — the most you can risk without breaching either rule. Size to that number, not to your ambition.

Profit target and consistency

Targets and consistency rules are progress measures, not breaches. Treat the target as a pace to walk toward over several sessions, and keep any single day from making up too large a share of profit if your firm enforces consistency.

Example challenge scenario

Example
A $100k account with a 5% daily and 10% max limit. After losing $2,000 today and $4,000 total: $3,000 daily room and $6,000 max room remain — so the next trade should risk no more than $3,000.

Frequently asked questions

What is a prop risk calculator?

A tool that turns your firm's daily-loss and max-loss limits plus your losses so far into the remaining room and the largest safe loss for your next trade.

Does it connect to a specific prop firm?

No — you enter your firm's limits, so it works for any ruleset. Map.Trade is not affiliated with or endorsed by any prop firm.

How is remaining risk calculated?

Daily room = daily limit − today's loss; max room = max limit − total drawdown. The safe next-trade loss is the smaller of the two.

What about trailing drawdown?

Trailing rules are approximated conservatively; always confirm the exact mechanics (balance vs equity, and when it locks) with your firm.

Can it prevent a breach?

It shows how close you are so you can decide — it does not place, block, or modify trades. The decision stays yours.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a deterministic planning calculator — no signals, no advice, no execution.
