Frequently asked questions
How is recovery calculated?
Required gain % = drawdown ÷ (1 − drawdown). It assumes you trade the reduced balance after the loss.
Why does a 50% loss need a 100% gain?
Because the gain is measured on the smaller post-loss balance: doubling $5,000 only returns you to $10,000.
Can a 100% drawdown be recovered?
No — a total loss of capital cannot be recovered by any percentage gain.
How does this relate to prop rules?
It shows why breaching a max-loss limit is so costly: the gain needed to undo a deep drawdown is far larger than the loss itself.
