How to practice with replay scenarios
Deliberate practice means replaying one specific situation over and over to improve a single behaviour. This guide shows which scenarios are worth practising, how to practise without hindsight bias, and how to turn every drill into a journal lesson — all with the tools we have today, and with clear boundaries on what is still roadmap.
Honest framing: Map.Trade is not a broker, gives no signals or copy trading, and is not financial advice. The scenarios are practice frameworks, not pre-built one-click packs.
This loop is now live in Replay Lab: use Go-to to jump to the scenario moment, mark it, write a structured debrief, and copy it into a journal note — and see honest session metrics when trade data exists.
What a replay scenario is
A replay scenario is a repeatable type of market situation — not one specific date. Instead of passively watching a chart, you load that kind of situation in Replay Lab again and again, step bar by bar, and decide before the outcome is revealed. It is the same loop described in the testing workflow.
Seven high-value scenarios to practise
Replay a calm range into a sudden burst of volatility and rehearse how you size and place stops under pressure. Practise on moments like Black Monday 1987 and the role of a circuit breaker.
Replay a liquidity vacuum in a fast market and watch how slippage fills. The 2010 Flash Crash is the classic example.
Replay the first minutes of a session open — where spread and volatility run high — to practise waiting or standing aside. Run it in Replay Lab on your own charts.
Replay a level break and the pull-back that retests it, committing to take-it/skip-it before the outcome shows — practising patience against the false breakout. Pair it with market charts.
Replay a violent news reaction to feel gap and slippage — like a currency peg breaking in the 2015 Swiss Franc Shock. The economic calendar gives the context.
Replay a losing streak and practise whether you break or hold your risk-per-trade rules near a drawdown or daily-loss limit. The Prop Risk Monitor surfaces the numbers.
Replay a crypto liquidation cascade to see how leverage accelerates a fall — like the Terra/LUNA collapse and the FTX collapse.
Practice playlists: one behaviour at a time
A “playlist” is your own list of similar situations to replay back-to-back: five session opens, say, or five breakout retests. By training one behaviour at a time you compare your journal notes across them and revisit repeated mistakes. It is a workflow you build yourself — not an automated feature.
Blind / bias-free replay Roadmap
Hindsight bias spoils practice when you know the symbol, date, or outcome. Today you can approximate it manually: pick an unfamiliar range and step forward without peeking ahead. Automatically hiding symbol/date/outcome to reduce bias is on our roadmap and is not a live feature yet — we will not present it as one.
The replay-to-journal debrief
A replay with no notes is just entertainment. After each drill, answer these in your journal so practice turns into learning:
- What was the setup? What pulled you into the decision?
- Where was the invalidation? Where would you have known you were wrong?
- What was the risk? Did it match your risk-per-trade?
- What emotion appeared — fear, greed, revenge, or FOMO?
- Did you follow the playbook, or break a rule?
- What should you add to the playbook or your mistake list?
Then record each lesson in your trading journal. (We do not yet have automatic replay-to-journal integration; this is a manual workflow.)
Prop rule practice
Replay a stressful move and review your decisions against prop rules: daily loss, max drawdown, risk per trade, consistency, and rule-break review. The Prop Risk Monitor shows those numbers from your history. This is a risk-review workflow, not a live rule simulator.
AI review / coach Roadmap
Automatic AI review of replay decisions — suggesting focus areas or flagging emotional decisions — is on our roadmap and is not a live feature. We will not present it as available until it actually is.
Frequently asked questions
No. Replay Lab is a review-and-practice tool. It is not a broker, it places no orders, and it connects to no live execution. Everything here is educational, not financial advice.
You can load real charts and replay them candle by candle in Replay Lab, including famous historical moments. The scenario types below are practice frameworks — repeatable ways to use the tool — not pre-built, one-click packs. Where a feature is not built yet (auto-hidden “blind” replay, AI review), we label it Roadmap.

Not yet. AI review of replay decisions is on our roadmap and is not a live feature. We will only describe it as available once it actually is.
